If These Walls Could Talk
The world is a constantly evolving and changing place. Fashion changes, cities grow, and businesses either adapt to meet needs, or they go under. Around my hometown, and around my college town, there are remnants of these old businesses in the lead paint still clinging to brick faces of companies long past. These include murals advertising tonics, radiators, and early 1900s grocery stores and factories. I find fascination with glimpses of societies past in building ruins and in the juxtaposition of old and new. For some buildings, their history is written out on the historical registry or on plaques near the building. For others, their facade is left in disrepair, falling from grace and memory with each brick. Finding these artifacts allows me to research the buildings and compile a look into what towns used to value and look like.
